Dr. Baeten is Vice Chair and Professor in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington. His research focuses on the prevention of HIV-1 and other sexually transmitted diseases, including clinical trials of novel prevention interventions, epidemiologic studies of risk factors for HIV-1 transmission, and biobehavioral and implementation science research aimed at optimizing prevention delivery. He led the Partners PrEP Study and MTN-020/ASPIRE, randomized clinical trials the proved the efficacy of tenofovir-based pills and the dapivirine vaginal ring as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) against HIV-1 acquisition.
