Nadim Mahmud, MD, MS, MPH, is a Gastroenterology Fellow in the Department of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Mahmud's primary research focuses on understanding acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF), a condition that portends extremely high short-term mortality for patients with cirrhosis. He has contributed to an ACLF literature that ultimately aims to risk stratify patients in order to better optimize scarce resources such as liver transplantation. Additionally, with a background in mobile health non-profit work, Dr. Mahmud has worked to design and promote initiatives to improve outpatient colonoscopy appointment adherence by using automated text messaging technology.Dr. Mahmud received his BS and MS degrees in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University, his MD degree at Stanford University School of Medicine, his MPH degree at the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is currently a Gastroenterology Chief Fellow and an MSCE candidate at the University of Pennsylvania.
